BETWEEN DREAMS

Between Dreams is adapted from The Palace of Dreams by Albanian author Ismail Kadare. The story takes place in an empire that has ruled for centuries through Dream Interpretation. Every day, countless dreams are collected, analyzed by Dream Interpreters, and presented to the monarch. A good dream brings glory; an evil one leads to punishment.

The film is a retrospection of the death of a Dream Interpreter. She was trained to decode symbols, deliver judgments, and dictate destinies—until one day, she was assigned to interpret her own dream: she assassinated the monarch in her dream—an evil dream that would sentence her to death.

Only then did she realize that the empire’s foundation—this rigid language of dreams—was a mirage. It had blinded her, the monarch, and the entire empire from seeing reality. But was there ever a reality to see? Everything is distorted. Everything is iridescent.

She wakes up—but still in between dreams.
