The Library of Babel
This is an architectural model of Borges’s Library of Babel, exploring the interplay between chaos and order. It draws on Borges’s idea that universal order emerges from the repetition of randomness. The hexagonal container, filled with dice marked with random letters, punctuation, and numbers, visualizes the emergence of order from chaos. Audiences shake the container and read the randomly generated texts through its windows.
“If an eternal player were to shake this model infinitely, he would eventually witness the same texts repeating in the same disorder—until repetition itself becomes order: The Order.”
